On April 26 and 27, 2001, the Government held its April 2001 regular meeting, discussing and resolving the following issues:

The Government approved the additional reports on the execution of the 2000 State plan and budget, and on the implementation of the 2001 tasks, presented by the Minister of Planning and Investment and the Minister of Finance.

The Government requested the ministries, branches and localities to continue concentrating efforts on implementing 11 specific tasks set by the National Assembly and 8 groups of key solutions included in the Government’s program of action, paying attention to the solutions on the mechanism and policies to remove difficulties in the consumption of farm produce, especially rice and coffee, as well as the implementation thereof; boost export, capital construction and investment plans, apportion adequate capital for investment projects which must be completed in 2001; adopt the policy on demand pull through investment and consumption; concentrate efforts on the implementation of the Program of hunger elimination and poverty alleviation, and Program 135 for communes meeting with great difficulties in mountainous and ethic minority areas; quickly work out basic and long-term solutions for economic restructure with regard to agriculture and rural areas, especially in the Mekong River delta and Central Highlands; well perform social activities and paying attention to employment programs; socialize education, healthcare, and physical training and sports; and continue applying solutions to ensure political security and social safety.

The Government passed the draft ordinance on income tax levied on high income earners (amended) and the decree on defense education. It also passed the report on the inspection and settlement of complains and denunciations in the first quarter of 2001, presented by the State Inspector General.- (Summary)
