DIRECTIVE No. 42/1998/CT-TTg of December 29, 1998 regarding the urgent measures to prevent and combat drought in the 1999 Winter-Spring and Summer-Autumn crops

In order to actively prevent and combat the drought and natural calamities, ensure the supply of water for the people’s daily life, and boost the 1999 Winter-Spring and Summer-Autumn crops, the Prime Minister instructs the ministries, branches and People’s Committees of the provinces and centrally-run cities to take a number of urgent measures to devise the specific plans and measures to overcome the possible water shortage; enhance the management, exploitation and use of water in rational and thrifty manner, thus ensuring the sufficient and stable water supply for production and people’s life; monitor and forecast the weather conditions; inspect and repair the damaged irrigation projects; control the water level of the hydroelectric reservoirs, thus satisfying the demands for electric power and water for drought combat.- (Summary)
