Forest Protection Technical Center No. I and Forest Protection Technical Center No. II are non-business forestry economic units under the Ranger Department.

The operation scope of Forest Protection Technical Center No. I covers the provinces in North Vietnam (from Ninh Binh province northwards).

The operation scope of Forest Protection Technical Center No. II covers the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Khanh Hoa and the Central Highlands provinces (Dac Lac, Gia Lai, Kon Tum and Lam Dong).

Forest Protection Technical Centers No. I and II have the following functions and tasks:

- To assist the director of the Ranger Department in performing the functions of forest management, forest fire prevention and fighting techniques as well as forest pest control;

- To forecast forest fires and forest pests; to elaborate options and plans for forest fire prevention and fighting as well as forest pest control for the localities assigned to them;

- To organize forces and coordinate with localities in responding to and fighting forest fires and killing forest pests in the areas where fires and pests may develop beyond the localities’ control;

- To study the application of, build models, organize training in and transfer of forest fire prevention and fighting as well as forest protection techniques for the ranger sub-departments and forest owners in the region;

- To coordinate with the ranger units as well as the local forest managing and protecting forces in propagating and mobilizing people to participate in forest fire prevention and fighting, forest pest control and forest protection;

- To assist the director of the Ranger Department in guiding, directing and inspecting the implementation of the work of forest fire prevention and fighting as well as forest pest control by the ranger sub-departments and national gardens;

- To perform other tasks assigned by the director of the Ranger Department.- (Summary)
