South Vietnam Hydraulics Institute is a non-business irrigation scientific-technological and postgraduate training unit in South Vietnam under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

It has the following principal tasks:

- To elaborate and organize the implementation of the annual short-term and long-term hydraulics programs and plans with a view to meeting the branch’s water resource development and management requirements.

- To conduct research into maters related to hydraulic projects, soil improvement, agricultural irrigation and drainage systems, protection of water environment, the systems of riverbanks, river mouths, sea coasts and islands, prevention, combat and reduction of natural disasters, and information technology on management and development of water resources.

- To apply and transfer new technologies to production, provide consultancy on hydraulic technologies; to participate in elaborating the process for management and development of water resources; to evaluate water quality and efficiency of hydraulic works.

- To provide postgraduate training, participate in training and fostering of water conservancy officials.

- To assume the prime responsibility for and cooperate with foreign and domestic organizations and individuals in research and postgraduate training, and participate in training and fostering of water conservancy officials in South Vietnam.- (Summary)
