The Mekong River Delta Rice Research Institute is a non-business scientific unit of the Mekong river delta region under Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

It has the following principal tasks:

1. To elaborate and implement annual, short-term and long-term scientific research and technological transfer plans of the Mekong river delta region, and submit them to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for approval on the basis of socio-economic development orientations and objectives as well as the State’s agricultural, forestry and fishery scientific-technological programs.

2. To conduct scientific research and technological transfer in service of socio-economic development of the Mekong river delta region and regions having similar conditions, including the following contents:

- Rice seed genetics, selection and multiplication;

- Farming technique and pest control technical measures;

- Use and protection of land resources, water resources, protection of agricultural ecological environment;

- Agricultural mechanization as well as preservation and processing of agricultural products;

- Development of agricultural system;

- Agricultural economy and development of new rural areas;

- Joining relevant scientific institutions for technological research and transfer.

3. To provide scientific and technical training, consultancy and services for production and/or business in the research fields of the Institute.

4. To enter into international scientific-technological cooperation in the research fields of the Institute.- (Summary)
