DECREE No.59-CP OF OCTOBER 7, 1995 OF THE GOVERNMENT TO DIVIDE DIEN BIEN DISTRICT OF LAI CHAU PROVINCE (Summary) To divide Dien Bien district of Lai Chau province into 2 districts of Dien Bien and Dien Bien Dong. Dien Bien district has a land area of 180,161 hectares and a population of 97,709, encompassing the communes of Muong Muon, Muong Pon, Na Tau, Muong Phang, Thanh Nua, Thanh Luong, Thanh Chan, Thanh Hung, Thanh Xuong, Thanh An, Thanh Yen, Noong Het, Noong Luong, Sam Mun, Nua Ngam, Pa Thom, Na U, Muong Nha, Muong Loi and the township of Dien Bien farm. Dien Bien Dong district has a land area of 121,799 hectares and a population of 35,063, encompassing the communes of Xa Dung, Pu Nhi, Na Son, Chieng So, Muong Luan, Keo Lom, Phinh Giang, Hang Lia, Luan Gioi and Phi Nhu.-
