Decision No.876-TTg of November 21, 1996 of the Prime Minister to ratify the Project on Forestry and Nature Preservation in Pu Mat region, Nghe An province (funded by EU).

- The project shall cover the territories of 3 districts: Con Cuong, Tuong Duong and Anh Son

- Duration of the project: 6 years, from 1996 to 2001

- Funding agency: European Union (EU)

- The project owner is the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the investor is the People’s Committee of Nghe An province, which shall conduct the investment through the provincial Service of Agriculture and Rural Deveopment

- Source of capital for the project: non-refunded aid of 17.5 million ECU given by EU; the corresponding domestic capital is 1,944 million ECU (equivalent to 28,451 million VND, including 11,022 million VND to be contributed by the people and 17,429 million VND to be allocated from the State budget)

- Activities: To develop agro-forestry production comprising the development of household economy oriented toward the production of commodities; provide universal services popularizing agricultural and forestry promotion; improve and upgrade roads; help the State-owned afforestation centers to shift to the new management regime; organize, manage and build nature preserves; re-settle the people of the Dan Lai ethnic minority into villages; support the family planning programs; and raise the management capability of the cadres of districts, communes, small villages and mountain villages.- (Summary)
