Main tasks and practical skills:
- Assessors shall fulfil the tasks assigned by the Chief Justice of the People’s Court where they have been elected or designated to serve as Assessors (Article 32 of the Ordinance on Judges and Assessors of the People’s Courts).
- Assessors shall be trained in professional skills, and shall attend conferences on summary of adjudicatory experience of the Court (Article 33 of the Ordinance on Judges and Assessors of the People’s Courts).
- An assessor shall decline to take part in proceedings or shall be replaced in circumstances provided by procedural law (Article 35 of the Ordinance on Judges and Assessors of the People’s Courts)
- An Assessor must carry out the adjudicatory work when assigned by the Chief Justice of the People’s Court, except for a proper reason.
- When the term of the People’s Council expires, the Assessors shall continue their work until new Assessors are elected (Item 1 of Article 39 of the Ordinance on Judges and Assessors of the People’s Courts)
- State agencies, organizations, and the armed forces units which have people elected or designated to be Assessors shall be responsible to facilitate the Assessors’ performance of their duties. State agencies, organizations, and the armed forces units are not allowed to transfer or to order the Assessor to do other duties, except under certain special circumstances (Article 40 of the Ordinance on Judges and Assessors of the People’s Courts).
